February Is Dental Month
January 03, 2012
February is National Pet Dental Health Month. Shippensburg Animal Hospital would like to take this opportunity to tell you about why your pet's dental health is so important, as well as the special savings that are available to you during the entire month of February.
Animals need regular dental checkups and cleanings to keep the teeth and gums healthy, just as people do. With regular dental exams and cleanings, problems with teeth and gums can be addressed before they become serious and potentially make your pet ill. A dental cleaning for your pet may be necessary if a veterinarian determines any of the following things upon an exam: excess build up of tartar on your pet's teeth, presence of gingivitis (inflammation of the gums), infection, halitosis (bad breath), or chipped or broken teeth in your pet's mouth. Regular dental care at home can also help to prevent these types of issues. For more information on how to begin a dental care regimen at home, please click here to view an informational video on how to brush your pet's teeth.
A dental cleaning is a routine anesthetic procedure where your pet is dropped off first thing in the morning and is most likely able to go home that same afternoon. As with any anesthetic procedure, we recommend a pre-anesthetic blood screening to make sure your pet's organs are funtioning at such a level to properly be able to process the anesthesia. If a dental cleaning has not already been recommended by one of our veterinarians and you are unsure if your pet is in need of one, please call one of our offices to schedule an exam.
We are currently scheduling dental clinics at all three of our locations for the month of February. We are offering coupons for $40 off any dental cleaning and polishing as well as $2 off any of the many dental products available. Don't forget that if your pet is a member of the Comprehensive Pet Health Plan, there are additional discounts available. For more information on CPHP, click here. Please call one of our offices now to take advantage of National Pet Dental Health Month today!
